The Essential Birth Preparation Workshop for Couples
*
This one day workshop will focus on preparing for an Active Birth with information and practice to empower you in your choices. The focus of the day is on preparation for an active labour and birth with information and practice to empower you in your choices. We discuss everything from epidurals to waterbirth and practice labouring and birthing positions, massage and effective coping skills. Midwives recommend the workshop in conjunction with NHS classes.

Whether you are hoping for a natural active birth, or considering an epidural, it's important to approach your birth well informed and with an open mind. This workshop provides you with the essential information and guidance you need to make informed choices. The emphasis will be on discovering your potential for a natural active birth and in addition, we will cover a broad range of topics including:

  • Normal physiology of labour and birth
  • Breathing, movement, positions and massage
  • Pain relief - Homeopathy to Epidurals
  • Making a birth plan
Places are limited on this workshop so advance booking is essential.

Refreshment is provided but you will need to take a packed lunch or use the local cafes. There is metered parking available on Manor Place.

* "We used everything we learnt on the day! It just all came in useful; I found the massage especially effective in later labour as my back hurt a lot."

"I just wasn't sure about how useful I'd be at the birth and to tell you the truth I was a bit apprehensive but by the end of the day I found myself actually looking forward to the experience! It was well worth it."

"I didn't know what I was letting myself in for by signing up for this workshop but I knew my partner got a lot out of her weekly yoga class and was always coming home with new information every week. It was really informative and mostly directed at the men, which was different to any of the other classes we'd done together. It helped me to find out the kind of things that might help her to cope with labour without disturbing the natural flow of things. But we also looked at common problems so I felt that it was pretty realistic."

"My greatest anxiety about labour was feeling like a spare part and not knowing what was going on but the day gave me lots of ideas and things to practice together. I liked the practical stuff best."

"This is our second child and I know he was reluctant to come as he thought the first birth was okay. I just felt we could have been better prepared and I really wanted to avoid the drugs this time, as I didn't think they helped the pain at all. It was great to have a whole day to talk about labour and we met other parents that felt the same way. I felt he understood what I wanted out of this birth and it was good to share the responsibility."

I just wanted to thank you for yesterday's workshop. It was so informative and so helpful and really gave Jason and myself loads to think about and plan and prepare. We have gone to a couple of our NHS antenatal classes which have been worthwhile but nothing like the rounded and interesting and practical session you gave us yesterday.
