If you are planning a home birth, hiring a pool can give you the confidence to labour without drugs. Request for analgesia is one of the main reasons for transfer to hospital during a first labour. As first labours can sometimes be long and tiring, the pool can give you and your baby a chance to rest between contractions. This will conserve your energy as well as reducing the need for intervention. Hiring a pool can enhance a couple's feelings of intimacy and privacy around health professionals.
If a woman has used a pool for her previous birth in hospital then hiring a pool will add to her feelings of security at home. Using the pool together in the final weeks of pregnancy can give you both the time to relax together as well as time to focus on your baby.
Due to the generous hire period, you should have ample opportunity to: find the best room/ site for the pool, for the midwives to see the pool and to time filling the pool.
If you are planning a homebirth with a second or subsequent baby, you may wish to choose a smaller pool that is quicker to fill.
If you are considering hiring a pool for home then it's important to check that your hot water system is up to the job! Both Combi (continuous) and Immersion (intermittent) hot water heating systems should be adequate for a first labour for all our pool types. However for a second or subsequent labour you may wish to consult us before you decide on your pool type.

After an hour and a half in the pool, our daughter Lola was calmly born into the water. It was the most amazing thing to see her
swimming up towards me, eyes wide open! Then the joy of quietly relaxing in the water with her in my arms right there in our
bedroom. I couldn't have wished for a more beautiful way to bring her into this world.
